Happy Birthday Frank!!!

swing.gif (26629 bytes)The HCOA joins the millions of Americans sending our best wishes to Frank Sinatra on his recent 80th birthday. Since there are over 8 million Americans 80+ years of age (25% of all those over 65), turning 80 isn't as remarkable as it once was. What is remarkable is continuing to contribute, to perform, regardless of age. Thus, Mr. Sinatra--the only recording artist to have had hit records in each of 7 decades--is an exemplar of a person who, irrespective of age, continues to enhance the quality of our lives.

One of Mr. Sinatra's many friends is Baylor's own Chancellor, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, who had this comment: "It is most gratifying to see Frank still doing well and contributing at age 80. This just reflects changing societal interests and concerns over aging; e.g., today we perform heart surgery on 80 year olds, whereas 5 to 10 years ago it wasn't done."

We agree with Dr. DeBakey: It is great seeing Mr. Sinatra being honored for a lifetime of contribution to the arts, particularly as he enters his ninth decade of life. So from us at Baylor's Huffington Center on Aging, Happy Birthday to you throughout cyberspace!
