Spotlighting HCOA Supporters

Energy and determination characterize Betty C. Jukes.
Betty has been "working" for our community for over thirty years. After moving
from Orlando in 1967 with her husband, Harry, Betty immediately became involved in the
Houston Community. Within her first year in our city, she founded two federated junior
womens clubs, the first Junior Womans Club and the Houston Junior Womens
Club. She served as president of both these groups.
At the Huffington Center on Aging, Betty is involved
with our Development Board, and most recently served as Luncheon Chair for the highly
successful Womens Health Summit. Over 850 people participated in this program.
Betty has a distinguished record in the history of
Houston fundraising, as she has been a participant and fundraiser with many other
organizations. As President of the University of Houston Moores School of Music Society in
1996 and 1997, Betty was instrumental in the fundraising efforts to construct the Moores
School of Music building and as general chairman, celebrated the grand opening with
"Six Evenings of Note." Last year, the Moores School of Music Society conferred
upon her the title of President Laureate.
Bettys other community involvement includes the
March of Dimes, Theatre Under the Stars, Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera,
Houstonians of the Year Dinner, the International Festivals Mayors Ball, the
Proud Partner Luncheon, Houston Youth Symphony & Ballet and many others. On the
national and international levels, Betty has coordinated programs for the World Wildlife
Fund, the Charles and Anne Lindbergh Memorial Fund, the USMA West Point Glee Club tours.
She also helped establish the Mercury Seven Foundation, of which she served as
International Coordinator and is a life member.
Betty is a member of Northwood Universitys
Womens Board, St. Lukes United Methodist Church, and Tanglewood Garden Club.
She is a life member of the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and the American Heart
Association.
We salute Bettys determination and energy that
contributed to the success of the Womens Health Summit as well as the other programs
in which she has been involved. Thank you, Betty!
