Physical findings including distended neck veins, hepato-jugular reflux, large tender liver, chest rales, S3 gallop and peripheral edema are not changed in the elderly. But remember, there are other conditions besides congestive heart failure which could cause chest rales and peripheral edema in the elderly. Look at the total clinical picture before leaping to a diagnosis.
