There are several indications for admitting a patient for treatment of
congestive heart failure. Many of these are intuitive. Here is a listing of the more
important and common reasons Medicare will accept for in-patient treatment of
congestive heart failure.
- Failure of outpatient management;
- Clinical or EKG evidence of myocardial ischemia or myocardial infarction;
- Brady- or tachyarrhythmias;
- Oxygen saturation below 90%;
- Hypotension;
- Pulmonary edema;
- Inadequate social support for safe and effective OPD management.
