X-Ray Showing Measurement of Heart Size
Drop a straight line somewhere near the middle of the heart shadow. Draw a
line, as in "a," from the right heart border to that line. Draw another line
from the left heart border furthest from the line in the middle of the heart
shadow as in "b." Add the two lengths together. The cardiothoracic ratio is the
ratio of the sum of lines a and b divided by the largest transverse diameter of
the chest (not fully shown here).
