Tips

Tip:
Age-related changes in the heart, which are almost universal and extensive at age 75 and beyond, render the ventricle stiff and therefore lead to diastolic dysfunction. The factors underlying these age-related changes are both structural and functional. When even mild disease supervenes, increased fluids are given to the patient, heart rate increases, or atrial fibrillation occurs -- and CHF may result.
