Centenarian - Mildred Horton
"1896 - 1996" Many
of you will remember Miss Mildred Horton, the centenarian
of extraordinary vitality, who was interviewed by Gene Cohen,
M.D., Director of the Center for Aging Health and Humanities,
George Washington University, who was a visiting professor
to the Huffington Center on Aging in October 1995. Dr. Cohen's
interview with Miss Horton was the highlight of a program
put on by the Huffington Center on Aging entitled, "Creative
Minds and Successful Aging,".
The audience was transfixed by the perceptive responses Miss
Horton made to Dr. Cohen's questions and her wide ranging
interests in current events, both near and far from her, including
her concern for the people caught in the war in Bosnia. However,
like many of us, Miss Horton, reflecting on the interview,
found so many things coming to her mind that she wrote us
a letter about her feelings. I responded by telling her how
brilliant we found her remarks to be and pointed out the long
line of people who were so impressed with what she said.
We also sent her letter to Dr. Gene Cohen. He has been gracious
enough to allow us to reproduce his reply here. We thought
you might enjoy reading it. The Director
