The
GeriHomes track is an opportunity to spend one year learning
medicine and the coordination of patient care via two BCM home
visit programs. The
HCHD program specializes in the care of the poor elderly and
Adult Protective Services clients in need of medical
evaluation. You
will be involved in significant medico-social situations
including court ordered removals and emergent
hospitalizations.
The TMH/SLEH
program offers an experience of home visits in an entirely
different venue. You will see patients in very affluent areas
in their homes and visit them in assisted living and nursing
homes. While the
socioeconomics may be different, the problems are often very
similar.
Requirements:
Attendance requirements will match those of Traditional LACE. All attendance, vacation and studying for boards type issues
will be handled by Dr. Poythress.
A project to improve the home visit program or the
community it serves is required at the end of the year.
Project days will be set aside during the year to work
on it. Topics
have included: developing a way to track home visit patients
vaccination requirements, evaluation of the VAMC (formally a
part of Gerihomes) policy on medical equipment, and this
year’s topic of improving the home safety evaluation
checklist. We want to be involved and help you with your
project.
Number
of students: 6 total

the six best applicants.
