2004 Women’s Health Summit
“A Conversation With Olympia Dukakis”

Academy Award winner, Olympia Dukakis, will receive The Anne Morrow Lindbergh Award for Aging With Grace and Distinction at the 2004 Women’s Health Summit on October 21, 2004. Ms. Dukakis will also deliver the keynote address; and because of her charming and casual manner, “A Conversation with Olympia Dukakis” is sure to be interesting and very enlightening.

Olympia Dukakis, award winning actress, director, producer, teacher, and activist has a career spanning over 40 years. She received an Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category, the New York Film Critics Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Award and Golden Globe Award for her work in the film Moonstruck.” Most recently, she has written a bestselling memoir, Ask Me Again Tomorrow. She has received two Obie Awards, for Bertolt Brecht’s “A Man’s a Man,” and Christopher Durang’s “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” at Joseph Papp’s Public Theatre. Other notable appearances at the Public include Sam Shepard’s “Curse of the Starving Class,” “Titus Andronicus,” “Electra,” and “Peer Gynt.”

Ms. Dukakis starred in the 2001 world premiere of Timberlake Wertenbaker’s “Credible Witness” at the London’s Royal Court Theatre.

If you plan on attending this year’s Women’s Health Summit, you are in for a great treat. Not only will film star Olympia Dukakis give the keynote address, but, Patsy Fourticq, Suzanne McCrary, Mary Lee Merrett, and Sharon Michael Owens will be presented with The Spirit of Anne Morrow Lindbergh Award. These women have given to Baylor College of Medicine, the arts, the business community, social causes, and to the city of Houston in countless ways. We have all benefited from their generosity and hard work, and each is truly worthy of this honor.

The two chairs, Sidney Faust and Cora Sue Mach, have planned a unique and entertaining day. At intermission, between the morning forum and the luncheon, specialtybooths will line the ballroom foyer at the Westin Galleria. On the journey to successful aging, guests will visit “Ports of Call,” which will include: The Tower of Strength, The Villa of Serenity, The Isle of Pilates, The Temple of Yoga, The House of Books, The Museum of Cosmetic Arts, The Smart House…A Trip to the Future, The Chocolate Chalet and The Pyramid of Vision. Attendees will be invited to visit each booth and have their “passport” for the day stamped. This special passport will be used in a drawing for a wonderful door prize.

The morning seminars will feature E. Fred Aguilar, M.D., a renowned plastic surgeon with a nationwide reputation; and, Dianne Dunkelman, founder and president of Speaking of Women’s Health, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating women in ways to make informed decisions about their health, well being, and personal safety. Proceeds from the day will assist in funding second-year geriatric fellows at the Huffington Center on Aging. Both individual tickets and tables of ten are available for purchase.
