Anita M. Woods, Ph.D.,
is on the faculty in the Department of Medicine, Section of Geriatrics, and in
the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
She is also an adjunct clinical professor in the University of Texas
School of Nursing and the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Woods has recently completed a large-scale training program for physicians in primary care at Baylor through the Geriatrics in Primary Care Residency Training Initiative funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation of New York City. Dr. Woods is a Faculty Associate in the Huffington Center on Aging, and the Co-Principal Investigator and Program Director of the Baylor Center of Excellence in Geriatrics. Dr. Woods has made major
contributions both locally and nationally to the education and training of
physicians and other health care professionals in geriatrics and gerontology.
Her primary areas of interest are mental health and cognitive functioning from
middle adulthood through advanced old age; the challenges and rewards for
families caring for older loved ones; and interdisciplinary team training in the
delivery of comprehensive health care services to the aged and their families. Dr. Woods received her Ph.D. in
Psychology at the University of Southern California, where her doctoral
committee was chaired by Dr. James E. Birren at the Andrus Gerontology Center.
